Express Yourself
Updated: Feb 11, 2022
Expressing yourself isn't always as easy as one might think. Many times people fear what others may think about their expression. For example, you may like to sing and dance but the minute someone tells you that you can't sing or dance you become self-conscious. I know because it happened to me with singing.
I remember singing my face off in my bedroom as a teenager. I felt good singing. My family let me know with the quickness that I could not sing. I thought to myself so what! I kept on singing. After hearing I can't sing approximately 100 times, I just stopped singing. Slowly but surely, my confidence was destroyed.
As the years went by, I was asked by several R&B singers if I can sing. My go-to answer was always: "GOD gave me a lot of gifts but singing ain't one of them." Then, I laughed. Well, over time, I gained the confidence to start singing in private. I asked GOD for the gift of song. Surprisingly, GOD started strengthening my voice. I'm not a great singer but I hear myself getting better the more I sing. I like to use my voice to praise GOD. I also love r & b music. I'm not saying I can sing well, y'all! I'm just saying that I like to sing! There's a big difference!
The point of it all is you must find a way to express yourself. Your mental health improves when you have a positive outlet for your frustrations. This is how I like to express myself: I write, dance, sing, and draw. As for my singing, I came a long way baby but I still have a long way to go! Ha-ha! Express yourself. It will give you life--no matter what they say.
I posted several of my charcoal drawings. I hope you are inspired to express yourself too. I would love to see your expressions in the comments.
Here I am purposely engaging in inspired living!
Blessings,
Rachel Mason
